Srdjan Saper: art career
Before entering the world of marketing, Srđan Šaper engaged in music, film and directing TV commercials. He is known as a founding member of “VIS Idoli”, a popular band that introduced the New Wave to former Yugoslavia, as well as by his role in the renowned movie “Strangler vs. Strangler”.
Srdjan Saper: business career
He continued his professional career in the world of marketing, where he is active for more than 25 years now. He worked as a creative director, producer and director in the agencies such as “Ogilvy & Mather”, “Saatchi & Saatchi” and “Idols & Friends”, whereas in 1997 he founded the marketing agency “McCann Belgrade” and shortly after “McCann Skopje”. Today, he is the head of the company “I&F McCann Grupa”, one of the leading communication systems in Southeast and North Europe, which successfully operates in twelve countries (Serbia, Denmark, Finland, Slovenia, Norway, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Sweden, Albania and Croatia). More than 800 awards won at domestic and international festivals speak of success. "I&F McCann Grupa" was the first from this area to win two Cannes lions at the world's most important advertising festival. In 2009, "Golden Lion" was received by the agency McCann Skopje, and two years later "Bronze Lion" was won by agency McCann Beograd.
During 2015, I&F McCann Grupa was awarded the recognition of the Serbian Association of Managers (SAM) for the Regional Project. Media agency UM Beograd, which operates within the I&F McCann Group, won the Golden Prize for the "Fanta & Yasserstain" campaign in the "Best Social Networking Campaign" campaign at the 18th "SEMPL" Media Trends Festival in 2016.
At the first Effie Awards in Serbia in 2017, the most prestigious world award rewarding effectiveness in marketing, the most recognized awards were won by agencies McCann Beograd and UM Beograd, making this group the most effective in Serbia. At the Integrated Communications Festival Cactus, McCann Beograd was named the Agency of the year in 2015, 2016 and 2017, and at the prestigious advertising Golden Drum festival, McCann Beograd won 5 awards in 2017, which significantly contributed to McCann Worldgroup becoming Network of the year at the festival.
McCann Zagreb won the most prestigious award - the X award for the agency of the year 2017 at the most important national advertising festival in Croatia, the Communication Days (Dani komunikacija). In 2018, within Effie Serbia, McCann Beograd won two bronze medals, while at Effie Croatia UM Zagreb won the Grand Prix, 2 gold and one silver with the client Zagrebačka pivovara.
Srđan Šaper teaches at postgraduate studies of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade and is often invited to appear as a guest at numerous international conferences where he holds lectures in the fields of advertising and marketing.
In 2003, he received a special recognition from the Association for Market Communications for promotion and development of marketing profession, whereas in 2011 the same Association awarded him with the Lifetime Achievement Award for a creative contribution to the development of market communications. In 2012, at The Night of the AdEaters event, he was declared the winner of the “Grand Slam” award for contribution to Serbian and regional advertising.
During his career, he was a member of several boards of public and business institutions, including the Serbian Association of Managers, the International Advertising Association, the American Chamber of Commerce and the Serbian-British Business Club.
Srđan Šaper is known for his long-standing support provided to a number of humanitarian organizations in Serbia and Montenegro.
